Who: Sab/Sabro/Sabrotiger— Stupid handle I came up with and I’m stuck with, cheers. I’m a US Navy Veteran and college drop out. Keep your expectation low. I’ve been drawing in a professional capacity since late 2015, though things only became acceptable in quality around late 2017 maybe. I’ve got a pretty workaholic temperament coupled with absolutely 0 business sense. Let’s see how this turns out haha. what: Here’s the most coherent breakdown I can manage. Short term: Porn is selling and I’m not good enough at non-porn work/ “dancing the dance” to make that viable so I’m going to attempt to reach personal/financial stability by doing lots of commission work. The remainder of my energy will be spent on working on content for/ shouting out my patreon/substar stuff when I can. medium term: Become self-sufficient via Patreon and Substar to the point where I can shift my focus from commission work to purely stuff for my supporters. (I’m not planning on going all harsh paywall mode where you need 16 years of supporting me to see one 72dpi screenshot of the art I’ve made and have to cash in all your “loyalty points” so I know you aren’t going to leak my stuff, I don’t care. If you like my stuff and wanna spread it around that’s cool but hey I’d really appreciate a buck or two thrown my way so I can keep the lights on.) With some stability I can probably maintain working on the projects I want to make. Along the way I’ll be building up skills in storytelling and comic presentation quality (panel flow, key moments, you know pacing etc) As time goes on I’ll be more free to work on side passion projects— you know the real shit, project Parafell and stuff like that. Think of this phase like me transitioning from commissions. I just want a smooth break from porn to non-porn work, no more internet artist tisms where I shift my focus 100% to something new and fail horribly. Lesson learned from all that, my bad guys. Hell I’ll even occasionally draw some naughty shit for free just for fun. I’m not anti porn or anything, I just don’t think it’s sustainable across the decades for my brain. long term: I want to make dark/surreal fantasy comics. Think Berserk, Morrowind, ASOIAF, The Stormlight Archive, I want to express myself with something real. I don’t get anything out of splatter paintings. /nail a turd to the wall etc modern/postmodern stuff. I don’t have one of these brains that will go to bat for awful art because I felt something in the short term in the theater and “it has a really important message though.” Like, you know if you have a really important message to deliver, it’d be a pretty shitty thing to do to just type it up in wingdings, print it out on tissue paper, then light half of the copies on fire/ add several lines of dialogue into the message that contains the phrase “fart monch” just to subvert expectations. That massager would be fucking fired. I want to write characters who feel real and change like actual people. I like logical consistency (and yes I mean internal logic, and emotional logic). These things aren’t arbitrary to me, they don’t seem to be ingredients in your art stew that satisfy the old-school science fiction types, they are an integral part of storytelling at its core. Logic and consistency—cause and effect are often the things that makes me relate to a character enough to the point that I’m invested in them like they’re a family member, even if I disagree with their outlook on things. I want to go discovering what a project or scenario has to say about “us” as people— not explicitly going in with a message. I don’t want to make propaganda that’s just going to drive the gap further, I’m here to make you feel things and think about things, not just to make you feel “good”. I want to explore, and discover what’s at the bottom of our hearts. Where’s the meaning in existence localized? how evil are we? Can someone who does explicitly evil things throughout their life be a good person in the final analysis? This is the stuff that keeps me up at night. I’d love the opportunity to one day go down that rabbit hole with you guys and see what we find. when: I’ll be working on comms as often as I can to dig myself out from below the poverty line. With help from you guys I might be able to cut back on that in the next couple months, maybe 5 or so but don’t quote me on that (life has a way of throwing wrenches in time estimates I’ve found), though It’s gonna be rough goings. I realistically can’t be pumping out high quality supporter content and keeping my commission quality as high as it is. Where: You can find me on these gallery sites/ streaming sites.
